1. Purpose

This procedure establishes the protocol for preparing the manufacturing workspace before each production session, ensuring cleanliness and organization to prevent contamination and product mix-ups.

2. Scope

This SOP applies to all production activities for soap and cosmetic products manufactured in home or small-scale environments.

5. Procedure

5.1 Clear the Workspace

  1. Remove all items not related to the production batch from the work area
  2. Clear food, beverages, and personal items from the production zone
  3. Ensure pets are excluded from the workspace
  4. Remove any products from previous batches

5.2 Clean Surfaces

  1. Wipe down all work surfaces with clean, damp cloth and cleaner
  2. Clean any spills or residue from previous work
  3. Wipe down frequently touched items (scale, thermometer, etc.)
  4. Allow surfaces to dry completely

5.3 Sanitize (for water-containing products)

  1. Spray work surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol
  2. Allow to air dry (do not wipe)
  3. Sanitize equipment handles and tools

5.4 Organize Materials

  1. Gather all raw materials needed for the batch
  2. Verify expiration dates of all ingredients
  3. Arrange in order of use
  4. Prepare packaging and labels for this specific product

No food, drinks, or personal items in workspace

All equipment is clean and ready
